All entrants must first register online at the Vodacom Journalist of the Year website, providing their personal details and information on the piece/s they submit. Entries may then be submitted to Vodacom in one of three ways:

Arrange collection by Internet Express, our VJOY courier partner – make sure you select this option when registering your entry on the website. 





ONLINE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS



For all entries uploaded online through the VJOY website. It is compulsory to provide proof, including date, of publication or broadcast; name(s) and contact details of the journalist(s) whose work is entered; together with a motivation giving background context to producing the work and any impact it might have had.


All entries uploaded online must adhere to required technical specifications listed below by media format.  



THE MAXIMUM UPLOAD SIZE OF A FILE IS 400MB.

A copy of the broadcast must be uploaded in .wav, .mp3 or .ai format together with a copy of the script.



PHOTOGRAPHY

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photograph(s) should be submitted in .pdf, .jpg or jpeg (at least 72dpi and 1024 x 768 resolution) in the original colour or black and white in which it was shot. As proof of publication of the photograph(s), a copy of the published page (showing dateline and publication name) must also be submitted, which will indicate to the judges the relevance of the photograph(s) to a story or headline.



TELEVISION

A copy of the broadcast must be uploaded in .flv .mpg, or .mp4 format together with a copy of the script.



PRINT

PRINT

A copy of the article must be uploaded in .pdf format. Note that this should clearly indicate the dateline and publication name as proof of publication.



Online Journalism

ONLINE JOURNALISM

Entrants must provide full-page screen shots to show first usage of the story in digital format, PDF files showing the full text, images and links, and copies of any of the videos used with the story. If the story is still available online, links must be provided in the entry form.

A copy of the script of any audio or film element included in an entry for this category must also be submitted.







HARD COPY SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS



Journalists wishing to drop off hard copies of entries or make use of the free courier service from Internet Express must take note of the following:


Each entry must first be registered online through the VJOY website. A unique reference and tracking number as well as a label will be emailed to the entrant which must be used in identifying each hard-copy entry. This label must be printed and attached to each corresponding entry.


It is compulsory that proof, including date of publication or broadcast, be provided together with a motivation to the judges, as well as the following requirements according to media:

Two separate copies in DVD/CD format and two copies of the script per entry must be submitted.



PHOTOGRAPHY

PHOTOGRAPHY

Two 8" x 10" prints of the original photograph/s must be submitted. When providing proof of publication of the photographs, include a copy of the published page (showing dateline and publication name) because the relevance of the photo to a story or headline may be applicable to the judging of that piece. Entries submitted may be in black and white or in colour. 



TELEVISION

Two PAL VHS format or DVD's must be submitted and each entry must be on a separate tape or DVD.



PRINT

Two copies of the article must be submitted. If you feel the copy can be better read in A3 format, please submit as A3.



Online Journalism

ONLINE JOURNALISM

To show first usage of the entry in digital format, full-page screen shots showing full text, images and links, and copies of any accompanying video or audio files (with script) must be provided on a USB flash drive, together with two colour A4 printouts of the entry. If the story is still available online, links must be provided in the entry form.
