VODACOM JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR 2019

"Content is fire,
social media is gasoline."

- Jay Baer

The 18th annual Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards are inspired by the work that journalists in South Africa have done to assist in making our democracy stronger. Our theme is "Connect the Dots" which is what one expects from journalists who need to help us understand our complex society. Quality journalism remains important to help us make decisions about the actions of people who play prominent roles in our society. The media continues to hold those with power and influence to account. The Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards are designed to pay tribute to those journalists who boldly tell the truth and challenge the status quo, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of the truth.

Regional category winners will receive R5 000*, and national category winners take home R10 000*. The winner of the young journalist award will win an all-expenses paid overseas trip, which includes a visit to the Thomson Foundation, as well as the opportunity to work in a newsroom. The coveted national accolade of Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award winner receives R100 000*.

*Winnings are apportioned if more than one person wins.
